Weekend Recap

Well, time for the recap of Kona's first full weekend at the Kester house. Friday Kona kept Ebeth company while she was home sick from preschool. They napped together for quite a while. That afternoon Ebeth and I grocery shopped and upon our return from the store Kona completed a thorough inspection of the grocery bags searching for what she hoped was hers...but Ebeth patiently explained to Kona that her food is only the dog food and she should just like it and eat it (which Ebeth has heard many times from us when she doesn't like the meal that is served).

Saturday was a nice day at home and Ebeth and Kona spent part of the afternoon watching movies together. However Saturday night was a little scary for Kona. Kona stayed up late with Nick and didn't quite get that when it was time for bed she should lay in her bed. She followed Nick around and since it was dark, got kicked once and almost stepped on twice as Nick couldn't see her in the dark. It was like the Kona version of Survior - try to make it to her doggie bed without getting squished by the giant.

Today Kona took her first car ride with the Kesters where she rode to the bank and tried to climb out the window while we were in the drive up lane. Then we went to Grandpa and Grandma Kester's house for supper where Kona was totally spoiled with a delicious dinner of turkey and some mashed potatoes. (Potatoes curtousy of Ebeth).
Now she is resting quietly next to me...well, not really quiet as she is snoring and sounds like a chain saw.

The Happenings in Kona-ville

Weather report: Freezing cold with snow flurries. Kona does not enjoy the snow falling while she is out doing her business and keeps trying to sneak back in the house before she is done.

Breaking news: Kona caught red-handed (or red pawed). Kona was busted today for sleeping on our bed while we are gone during the day. Nick came home early and found her all cozy and napping in the middle of our bed. I seem to recall specifically telling her that was not allowed.....

Social events: Ebeth and Kona have rekindled their friendship, getting along pretty well these days. Kona even allows Ebeth to take her for walks. Last night Ebeth played toys with Kona throwing her kangaroos around while Kona chases them. Which, by the way, is especially funny because Kona hasn't quite mastered the laminate floors and slips and slides all over when she tries to run. Ebeth now "blows kisses" to Kona, which she has determined is much safer.

More breaking news: Kona attacked by rug during toy chase. This just in - Kona was just attacked by a seemingly harmless rug during an extensive kangaroo chase around the table. Kona has filed a complaint (unexpected bark). The rug police are investigating.

KNN - Kona News Network Update

Kona seems to be settling in nicely. She has already been chasing squirrels out of our yard and has figured out she should hang out by Ebeth during meals since that is where the food falls from. Kona has also taken to following me around all the time and waits for me outside the door when I don't let her follow me. Last night she went right to bed and at about 2am she decided to try and be stealthy and jump into bed with us. At first, I was impressed because that is a pretty high jump and Kona has pretty short legs. But sadly for Kona, she was relocated back to her dog bed on the floor. Ebeth and Kona had a small scuffle this evening, which was Ebeth's fault - resulting in a few scratches and a new appreciation for the Kona's personal space.

Kona

Ok, so I really should have posted this first as I am sure some of you are wondering who Kona is - we have offered to care for Kona (the most well-behaved Boston according to her parents) while my cousin, Bethany, and her husband Mark travel for 37 weeks for an awesome new job for Verizon driving around in the Verizon-Mobile. So we have affectionately dubbed our house "Kona's Bed & Breakfast" while she stays with us. She completed a thorough sniffing of the whole house and marked her territory in the backyard, and then claimed her cushion on the couch.

Kona's Arrival

Jan 23 - Ebeth anxiously awaited Kona's big arrival and has been asking for days when Kona would get here. Kona showed up early this afternoon and Ebeth has been glued to her side ever since. Ebeth can't seem to figure out why Kona doesn't want to see her toys and her room. (Kona looks at us grown-ups as if to say "you have got to be kidding me"). Ebeth has already moved Kona's bed into her room as Kona will be sleeping with her tonight - althought Kona might not be quite as excited as Ebeth :) Currenly, both girls are napping (and snoring) on the couch together.

And as a side note - for a dog who hates snow and wet and cold (according to her parents), she spend a long time running around the snow-covered yard this afternoon enjoying herself.
